Barista: “Every time you come in here you remind me of, like, a surfboard shop owner, or skateboards, y’know, hangs on the beach in Santa Cruz, real laid back …”
Me: “Well, that is my greatest aspiration.”
The people behind me in line chuckled along with us. One of them, a black man who had laughed out loud, had already gotten his drink and was sitting outside as I left.
Me: “Take it easy.”
Him: “Enjoy your stereotype.”
And we laughed again.
